Computers can be limited with specified time and quota per session, day time when access is allowed and set to logout after inactivity. Our bandwidth shaper is suitable for various purposes: - Home or neighborhood Internet sharing, user connection limitation, blocking child sensitive URLs based on keywords - Company Internet sharing, limitation, tracking what employees are visiting, and blocking sensitive content, desired non-work related websites etc. - Internet and game cafes where every computer can have different download and upload rates. No additional Client software installations are required Bandwidth Manager doesn't require any proprietary hardware so you can use any standard PC with two network cards. It's hardware independent and you can use any type of Access Points, Routers, Switches and other equipment. You can use it with WiFi, WiMax, LAN, Cable, DSL, Satellite and other type of  network connections. Software includes statistics and reporting with many useful features. Introduction Bandwidth Manager Manual © Antamedia 2010 2 1.2 Requirements  Antamedia Bandwidth Manager software should be installed on a standard PC computer, running Windows OS. Computer need to have two network cards which are connected to the Internet on one side and to your network on the other side. Bandwidth Manager analyzes all network traffic between computers on your network and Internet. If  computer is logged in, traffic is passed through the second network card to the Internet.  Antamedia Bandwidth Manager have to be configured as a gateway for all computers in your network. On the first run, Bandwidth Manager will help you to configure your network through Setup Wizard. Introduction Bandwidth Manager Manual © Antamedia 2010 3 1.3 How Can It Help You ? Bandwidth Manager Benefits  Antamedia Bandwidth Manager has advanced architecture which allows both, simple and very large networks. You can install it on one computer and start controlling computers from your network. As your network grows, you do not need to change anything. Everything is routed through the same computer which saves depoyment time and maintenance. With use of Bandwidth Manager software you can control computer Internet access based on MAC, IP address or both, limit bandwidth quota, daily bandwidth quota, upload and download speed, usage time, daily usage time etc. Defined Internet Access for Known and Unknown Users If you offer Internet access to walk-in customers (unknown users), Bandwidth Manager helps you configure separate limitations for such users. By enabling Autologin, you can allow access for unknown computers on the network, with separate connection parameters. Advantage of our solution is very high customization of User accounts which allows creating limited or unlimited accounts. Among classic features like time and bandwidth quota limits, you can configure daily time limit, number of daily logins, number of simultaneous logins with aggregation which is very practical when offering free WiFi Internet. In addition, it’s very easy to offer paid Internet access with higher speeds, quota or unlimited daily or monthly access. Control Employee Internet Use It is strongly recommended that you produce a company policy on Internet usage, ensuring that within it you include your policy on employee monitoring. That way employees know both what they can and cannot do and what you may be doing to observe them. Bandwidth Manager software have incorporated monitoring within actual control of what can be accessed. Software does not trap or record emails since they has raised more technical legal issues than accessing networks or websites. Instead it simply records what computer and user accessed, what website, as that removes any challenge on the basis of   “intercepting private communication”. From software you will be able to block access to sites and achieve the basic aim, which is reducing the time and bandwidth wasted on “web surfing”. Beside blocked access to sites, you can go further and set banned keywords within urls, for example automatically blocking any website with “sex” or “porn” in the URL. Rather than presenting your employees with a blank screen, you can also set Bandwidth Manager to auto-redirect certain URLS to more work friendly sites. Alternatively you can display your Internet usage policy as a blunt reminder, or perhaps a request form, so if  necessary the user can ask for an exception for that specific site. Offer WiFi Services in Your Hotel, Coffee Shop, Restaurant Offering high-speed wireless Internet services in one hotel will only help you increase occupancy and improve tenant and guest satisfaction. Furthermore, it will also represent additional source of revenue for your business. With the use of Antamedia Bandwidth Manager software in your WiFi Hotel, you will be able to: - control and monitor access to the Internet for all computers, both wired and wireless in your guest rooms - provide reliable wireless Internet access in your restaurant, lobby and conference rooms, which makes it ideal for seminars and meetings - maintain secure access to the Internet resources outside the hotel, like on golf courses or by the hotel pools. Serve Walk-in Laptop Customers in Your Cyber Cafe If you run an Internet Café or Gaming Center, a great profit booster can be a wireless network. Many people use their own laptop for everyday job or on vacation to stay in touch with family and friends. Even in non-working hours of your primary business, y our customers will be able to use your services and Introduction Bandwidth Manager Manual © Antamedia 2010 4 generate profit. Best of all, it's automated, there are no maintenance fee for computers, licenses for  software and OS. Can Be Used in Various Locations Flexible architecture makes it suitable for different locations like Internet Café, Cyber Café , Resorts, Hotels, Motels, enterprises that provide Internet access to guests, Hospitals, Universities, Schools or other education institutions , Coffee Shops, Shopping Malls, Conference Centers, Business Centers, apartment Internet service control etc... Introduction Bandwidth Manager Manual © Antamedia 2010 5 1.4 The User Interface Main screen shows the most important details of connected computers: IP and MAC address, time, quota, download and upload rate and inactivity timeout. Bottom status line shows number of connected computers as users and current total download and upload rate represented in KB/sec, and these values are continuously updated. On top status bar software displays important messages, like users login and logout, so you can always see what's happening on your Bandwidth Manager. From the main screen represented on picture below, you can choose one of the options: CONNECTIONS Displays (logged in) computers and their current status USERS Configuration panel for access of known and unknown computers on the network  STATISTICS Contains log, statistics and reports, visited URLs and connection log showing who is trying to login in your network  SETUP  Administrator configuration options LOGOUT Lock Bandwidth Manager software to prevent unauthorized activity. Bandwidth Manager continues traffic control after employee or administrator logout If you prefer smaller computer icons, you can switch to compact view and display more computers on screen. Option is located in Bandwidth Manager - Setup - Options - Misc. Options page. Inactivity field is showing remaining time until automatic logout. Inactivity is optional for every account and default number of seconds can be specified in Bandwidth Manager - Network page. Network Configuration Bandwidth Manager Manual © Antamedia 2010 6 2 Network Configuration 2.1 Network Setup Network Setup page shows the following options: Network Interface Network interface which connects Bandwidth Manager to your network  Autostart for selected interface  Automatically start Bandwidth Manager control when program starts IP address IP address of the selected network interface Maximum users Maximum number of users connected at the same time Inactivity logout  Automatically disconnect user after specified time of inactivity Start Press Start button to activate Bandwidth Manager control Stop Press Stop button to deactivate Bandwidth Manager control Save Save network settings The first step in setting up the Bandwidth Manager is sharing Internet connection. This step is required in order to allow all customers in your network to access the Internet. There are several ways to share Internet connection: - Using  Antamedia Bandwidth Manager (Network Address Translation) , a feature available in Premium Edition and within trial interval. Setup Wizard will help you to configure NAT and give you sample how to configure connections of computers in your network  - Using Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing available in Windows operating system - Using Routing and Remote Access available in Windows Server editions  After you configure Internet sharing, please select Network Interface which connects your network to Network Configuration Bandwidth Manager Manual © Antamedia 2010 7 the Bandwidth Manager. On selected network interface Bandwidth manager will activate integrated Web Server which is used to control and filter computers access to Internet. By changing the network  interface, IP address will be automatically filled in. Please enable  Autostart and press on the Save button to store your settings. The last step is clicking on Start button to activate Bandwidth Manager engine. From that moment computers on the network will access to Internet based on your configuration from User panel. In case that network computers don't have access to Internet, please check if  - Internet connection is shared - computers in your network have correct connection settings (IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS). Please make sure that gateway IP of client computers is the same IP as IP address in Network Setup page. - Windows Firewall and other firewalls are configured to allow Bandwidth Manager communication - other web servers are using port 80 - Skype is using port 80. Please disable this feature in Skype - Options - Connection - 'Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections' and restart Skype and Antamedia Bandwidth Manager. Network Configuration Bandwidth Manager Manual © Antamedia 2010 8 2.2 NAT Setup Network Address Translation (NAT) is the process of modifying packet network address in order to use one public IP address with multiple usually local IP addresses. To say it simply, NAT is performing a Internet connection sharing. For example, you are using ADSL to connect to your ISP, and your computer gets one public IP address (like 202.102.43.11). Since all customer computers in your Bandwidth Manager network should have it's own IP address, you can use NAT to do translation between local IP address (like 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254) and public IP which ISP assigned to your ADSL. Of course, NAT can be used with any type of devices and is not limited to ADSL. To configure NAT, you need to know how are you connected to the Internet. If you are using a modem (like ADSL, Cable etc), please select Dial-up modem . If you are connecting through switch, router or other devices, please specify LAN.  As a NAT Network Interface , please select network interface which connects Bandwidth Manager to the Internet. The last option to configure is DNS redirector. Please type here one of the DNS addresses specified by your Internet service provider, or any other working DNS server. This option helps in cases when customer has incorrectly configured DNS address. Bandwidth Manager will redirect client to the correct address and DNS query will be resolved. Database Server Bandwidth Manager Manual © Antamedia 2010 9 3 Database Server 3.1 Database Server  Antamedia Database Server is additional application that stores software database files (including: users, statistic reports, action log database etc.). Database Server installer is included in the Bandwidth Manager installer which is available for download from Antamedia web site download page ( www. antamedia.com/download ). Database server can be installed on the same computer as Antamedia Bandwidth Manager or some other computer. For small installations (100 simultaneous users) Database Server can be located on the same computer, assuming that such computer is fast enough to handle all tasks. Please use Task Manager to monitor system resources and CPU usage. When idle, Bandwidth Manager and Database Server doesn't show any significant CPU usage. However, with large number of concurrent users, Bandwidth Manager and Database Server might reach 40-50% of CPU usage, and this is a sign to move Database Server to other computer. Upon installing Database Server, Installer will start ADBConfigurator (Antamedia Database Configurator) which will perform maintenance, update and add new database tables, stored procedures, triggers etc. Recommendation : To keep your database safe, please use UPS (Uninterruptible power supply) on a computer where Database Server is installed. In case of power issues, database will remain intact. Power problems might lead to corrupted database and cause downtime. You can learn more about UPS in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninterruptible_power_supply Repairing database : If you already have database problem, please close HotSpot and run  ADBConfigurator, which is located in the same folder as Database Server. Select Accounts tables and click on Repair button. In most cases database can be fixed successfully.
