In this article, Chuck and Julie Cohen document their concerns with essential oils from a spiritual standpoint, with particular respect to how essential oils are marketed by the company "Young Living." Please note that the authors are NOT concerned with the use of essential oils in foods, cosmetics and cleansers. Their primary concerns are (1) when essential oils are marketed as having a spiritual/therapeutic component; and (2) when Christians promote and sell products in tandem with a company such as Young Living, which is undergirded with New Age/New Thought beliefs and concepts (i.e., being "unequally yoked"). This is a long, scholarly article, but I think it is essential reading for any Christian who might have a question mark in their head when it comes to essential oils.
