Our schools and colleges offer instruction in some of these, notably in French, Spanish, Italian, and German; for other languages it is diicult or impossible to get formal instruction. This booklet is planned to help the reader to shift for himself. The reader should supplement the advice here ofered with the more detailed information to be found in the Outline of Linguistic Analysis by Benard Bloch and George L. Trager. published in the same series as the present work.
