Comparative study - English translations of Magda Szabó Az ajtó The theisis has been built along three consistent parts, which cover in detail both the theoretical and practical implications of literary translation. I have started my work by introducing the writer, as well as the Brithish and the American translators, Stefan Draughon, New York, 1994 and Len Rix, London, 2005. My hypothesis had been that the Brithish version must have relied on the already existing American version. Another aim of the study was equally to determine the extent to which the two English translations differ from each other and the source, Hungarian text. I compared both the techniques and transfer operations employed by the translators and a database of differences in the linguistic transposition of linguistic and cultural realia.
