Sociology: A Disinvitation? By Peter Berger

Peter Berger criticizes sociologists for failing to live up to the great promise of classical sociology to help moderns understand their personal and social lives. He points out four striking failures of contemporary sociology to predict and/or explain major events in the twentieth century. He argues that this is due to their deviation from the kind of human, comparative and broad based work that was characteristic of the earlier giants; these include figures such as Marx, Weber and Durkheim.
